01. Site Assessment + Space Planning. Dream big + stay grounded. Evaluación + distribución. Piensa en grande, con los pies en la tierra.
Initial collaboration meet-up. Now that we’ve heard your vision for the concept and imagined the possibilities together, we’ll identify your goals for profitability and investment to see if this space could work. Next, we measure and document the proposed space with 2D drafting, photos, and videos for accurate dimensions and site constraints. We identify code requirements for washrooms and exits and start drafting it to scale. Based on square footage and site conditions, we outline a construction cost estimate and customer seat count. We meet, discuss, and if this space is the one, move ahead to step 2.
02. Concept + Massing Model. It’s so much more than selfie walls. Concepto + modelo 3D. Es mucho más que elegir acabados.
Collaboration meet-up. When you move ahead with the lease, we start to explore possibilities for your brand concept. We always ask: how can we make an unforgettable guest experience? We consider how the interior design concept is enhanced by other brand elements like graphic design, music, server uniforms, and much more. At the same time, we build a greyscale 3D model showing light and shadow, but no colour or texture yet. This lets you see the layout in 3D, helps us identify key vistas, and ensures every guest has the best seat in the house.
03. Lighting + Material Model. The project finds its soul. Materiales + iluminación. El proyecto empieza a cobrar vida.
Collaboration meet-up. When you’re excited about the concept direction, we jump back into the 3D model and start applying textures, materials, and lighting to support our shared vision. We gather physical samples so you can see, touch, and determine the quality of everything going into your space and how it affects the construction budget. At the same time, we use photometrics—lighting science—to create a mood and show you how it looks in the 3D model.
04. Specifications + Custom Pieces. A case against the generic. Especificaciones + diseño. Nada queda al azar.
Collaboration meet-up. Now that the project is taking shape, we find the perfect pieces to complement and complete the space: chairs, tables, lighting fixtures, and all the small touches that make the project uniquely yours. Working with the model and concept, we identify when to use ready-made pieces and when to create something custom so your space is like nothing else out there. Whether it’s custom colours or fully original furniture and lighting, we make sure everything fits the concept.
05. Construction Documentation. Clarity is key. Planos constructivos. La claridad evita problemas.
Collaboration meet-up. We generate images from the 3D model together with 2D drafting to communicate clearly with artisans and tradespeople and obtain competitive prices on labour and materials. A large-scale drawing set stays on site during construction, reducing questions and confusion for the build team. You’ll need permit, costing, and construction drawing sets. If engineering or an architect’s seal is required, we coordinate it.
06. Build Support. Design doesn’t end here. Acompañamiento en obra. El diseño no termina cuando empieza la obra.
Collaboration meet-up. During construction, we hold video or in-person site meetings to bring our vision to life. You benefit from our relationships with tradespeople and vendors to get the best quality and pricing for each aspect of the buildout. If the project is the right fit, we can act as general contractor, drawing on a decade of commercial construction and project management experience. We also professionally photograph the space, edit the photos, and upload them to Google Maps. You can use them on your website and social media to get your marketing off the ground.

It’s a feeling your guests have when they enter your space. There are so many intangibles – the energy of a room, a comfortable seat in the perfect spot to welcome them, the textures, the lighting, the smells and sounds. This is what we do.

We design for all the senses, elevating the guest experience to create a memorable visit that will have them coming back, telling others, and bringing friends.

We have our own tenets of design: No bad seats. Lighting and acoustics are paramount. But above all, create a memorable unique experience that both drives profit and creates community.

Jaclyn has 15 years experience in design, co-establishing a design-build business in Canada before relocating to Puerto Vallarta with her family to start Valence Design. She and Tyler both have a degree in Architecture from University of Manitoba (Canada).
